Farewell to our comrade David Cobb

Sept. 8, 2026 - It is with a heavy heart and deep regret that we share news of the sudden loss of a treasured friend, revolutionary comrade, mentor and teacher, David Keith Cobb, the Green Party of California’s spokesperson.

David’s vastly generous heart, analytical mind, and optimistic spirit have guided and inspired many of our Green family and friends. His absence will be deeply felt as we continue to build on the path that he laid ahead towards equity and justice for us all.

With his typical laser focus, David worked for decades on creating pathways to truly democratic and equitable, social and political structures. His work spanned across legal challenges to corporate polluters, lobbying elected officials, running as the 2004 Green Party presidential nominee, managing the Stein/Baraka 2016 presidential campaign, movement building for electoral reforms, public banking, indigenous economic sovereignty, building community resilience, and much more.

David’s drive for social justice brought him to the Green Party and carried him far beyond to many other movements, most recently as coordinator of the US Solidarity Economy Network. He served on the Green Party of California Coordinating Committee for multiple terms, was our spokesperson and Liaison to the ProRep Coalition. He co-founded Move-to-Amend, Cooperation Humboldt, the Green Ecosocialist Network, and was an active advisor and resource in many other organizations.

With a commitment to education, David also co-founded the Movement School for Revolutionaries. The program facilitated custom-designed Movement Schools across the country to help Greens strategize how to best collaborate with other progressives in critical political moments, and how to grapple with emerging fascism in the U.S.

Since 2022, David’s Redneck Gone Green podcast has brought critical issues to light, gave voice to thought leaders, and revealed tangible solutions and roadmaps to achieving liberation to its viewers. His analysis and writings decisively impacted our understanding of our own communities’ power in shaping a collective future. We share this link to David’s last broadcast of the Redneck Gone Green podcast, recorded live on the day he left us.

We in the Green Party of California, say farewell to you, our beloved friend and comrade, David Cobb, we are all better to have known you and we commit to putting the lessons and wisdom you so generously and unconditionally shared with us towards the future we need and deserve.
